ENDORSEMENT AND/OR INVESTMENT

ROBERT PLANT

"For the last ten years or so many of my musical adventures have been with friends from Bristol and Bath, so I'm fully aware of the Bell and its legacy and its contribution to the musicians and audience in the surrounding area.

“To me, the Bell is a crucial and integral venue and a great window into the world of music and entertainment in the West Country."

MICHAEL EAVIS, founder and boss of GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL

"The Bell in Bath is one of the foundation stones of the vibrant live music scene here in the South West. There are fewer and fewer of such places around, providing high quality free live music, giving a chance to up-and-coming bands and welcoming back the more established ones.

“The Bell and Glastonbury Festival are both part of the same family and are trying to do the same thing in their own distinct ways. We must not allow the Bell to become just another chain pub or worse, and I would urge everyone to support this splendid community enterprise."

PETER GABRIEL

"For more than 30 years Bath has evolved as a great place for music and especially for nurturing new talent in many areas. The Bell has always been a key part of Bath's live music scene, often giving musicians their first break and always providing music that is vibrant, diverse and free.”

THE STRANGLERS

Jean Jacques Burnel:
“The Stranglers have always had a connection with Bath and the Bell is a favoured haunt when we are in town. We feel that its important to support it as a musical institution in Bath”.

GABRIELLE APLIN

“The Bell in Walcot street is a really magical place; every Bath music fan and every Bath musician including myself have spent many evenings crammed into the tiny bar listening to a huge variety of live music on offer almost every night of the week. It’s where new musicians cut their teeth and more established musicians return time and time again. The idea of the local community owning The Bell is fantastic and I'm fully behind the community buy out. Along with everyone who's ever been there, I'd be really devastated to see this special place taken over by a pub chain. With so many small venues across the UK being forced to close, it’s great to see the residents of Bath coming together to avoid the same fate for one of my favourite venues.”

"There is always something special about a room that's had a lot of great music played in it - the notes seem to get stuck into the walls - this is certainly the case with The Bell - always a great atmosphere it's a truly historic music pub and deserves national trust status - by far the most important Pump room in Bath"

THE DARKNESS

We’ve been to Bath a few times, and spent some time in the Bell. It’s one of those special places you remember because the people are so friendly, the music is always great and you’re guaranteed a proper pint!  When we heard about the Bell’s community share buy-out scheme we wanted to get involved and offer our full support. A few years ago, we wrote a Xmas song called “Don’t Let the Bell’s End”.... from now on, we’re dedicating that song to the Bell’s campaign to stop a faceless corporation taking over and renaming it accordingly..
‘Don’t let the Bell end!’
Next time we visit I hope we’ll be buying our pint from the people of Bath.

ENTER SHIKARI

"not only have we always enjoyed playing in Bath, but we also come from a Roman city severely lacking in live music venues, so its sad to hear that one of the few remaining venues in the city is under threat. Without venues like The Bell there would be nowhere for the successful artists of tomorrow to cut their teeth. As a band with strong views on the power of collective action, we think its great to see a community coming together to try save something important to them, so we are more than happy to add our voice to the campaign".

KANGAROO MOON

"The Bell is a very special pub, in fact, it is" arguably the best pub in the world." Since Kangaroomoon first came over from Australia in 1991 we have played there at least once a year, sometimes more. In fact, it was the Bell that gave me my first break as a solo performer. That first gig was among the most significant gigs I have ever played. Since then, every time we have played has been a joy and a delight, and has been successful on every level. The Bell knows how to look after musicians and audiences alike.
The pub has a timeless and permanent feel about it. In all those years it's as if nothing has changed, yet each time i walk in, it always seems fresh and new.
As a venue for live music, especially in these times of corporate-based homogenisation of music venues, and pubs in general, the Bell is a treasure, a rare gem.
Long may it continue to be so!
Yours, in hope, Mark Robson (Kangaroomoon)"
